How to upgrade Moto X ATT xt1058 to KITKAT

I recently bought a ATT Moto X. Unlocked it to use on T-Mobile, But was stuck with jelly bean as the OTA update only works when you are subscribed to ATT network. I had to search a lot on the web to get all the OTA so that they can be manually applied. Making it easier for other folks.

Download the OTA Updates

  1. 139.9.51.ghost_att.ATT.en.US (this is the factory version)
  2. 139.12.54.ghost_att.ATT.en.US (jelly bean)
  3. 140.44.5.ghost_att.ATT.en.US (kitkat 4.4)
  4. 165.44.1(kitkat 4.4.2)
  5. 212.44.26 (kitkat 4.4.4)
  6. Save the OTA updates to the root of your SD Card.

Enter Moto X Recovery Mode

  1. The first thing to do is to power off your Moto X.
  2. With the phone powered off, press and hold the volume down button for 2-3 seconds, then Power button,  then release both buttons.
  3. The boot menu screen will be displayed on your Moto X.
  4. Now, here you can scroll down by using the Volume down button (by pressing Volume up you will select your option).
  5. So, scroll down on “recovery” and select by pressing on volume up.
  6. An “injured” android logo will be displayed on your device.
  7. From there press Volume up and Volume down buttons at the same time for about five seconds and then press power button once.
  8. Now the recovery mode menu will be displayed on Moto X.
  9. You can return to Android OS by selecting “reboot system now”.

Apply the updates

  1.  From recovery mode just select “Apply update from SD card” and pick the firmware file in the correct order.
  2. Wait while the update is being installed and in the end reboot your Android device.
  3. If your phone will get stuck in a boot loop, go back to recovery mode and from there select “wipe data factory reset” followed by “wipe cache partition”.
  4.  Repeat the steps for all the updates.
