I recently bought a ATT Moto X. Unlocked it to use on T-Mobile, But was stuck with jelly bean as the OTA update only works when you are subscribed to ATT network. I had to search a lot on the web to get all the OTA so that they can be manually applied. Making it easier for other folks.
Download the OTA Updates
- 139.9.51.ghost_att.ATT.en.US (this is the factory version)
- 139.12.54.ghost_att.ATT.en.US (jelly bean)
- 140.44.5.ghost_att.ATT.en.US (kitkat 4.4)
- 165.44.1(kitkat 4.4.2)
- 212.44.26 (kitkat 4.4.4)
- Save the OTA updates to the root of your SD Card.
Enter Moto X Recovery Mode
- The first thing to do is to power off your Moto X.
- With the phone powered off, press and hold the volume down button for 2-3 seconds, then Power button, then release both buttons.
- The boot menu screen will be displayed on your Moto X.
- Now, here you can scroll down by using the Volume down button (by pressing Volume up you will select your option).
- So, scroll down on “recovery” and select by pressing on volume up.
- An “injured” android logo will be displayed on your device.
- From there press Volume up and Volume down buttons at the same time for about five seconds and then press power button once.
- Now the recovery mode menu will be displayed on Moto X.
- You can return to Android OS by selecting “reboot system now”.
Apply the updates
- From recovery mode just select “Apply update from SD card” and pick the firmware file in the correct order.
- Wait while the update is being installed and in the end reboot your Android device.
- If your phone will get stuck in a boot loop, go back to recovery mode and from there select “wipe data factory reset” followed by “wipe cache partition”.
- Repeat the steps for all the updates.
